On our way home from our Amalfi coast vacation, we decided to take a little detour to the ancient greek city of Paestum. The drive to Paestum took us about an hour off of our scheduled route to get home on the A3 highway. These smaller roads took us through tiny towns and farmland. This area is famous for buffalo mozzarella and we saw many of the farms and that raise the animals involved in producing it. If you haven’t tried buffalo mozzarella yet, do it. It’s heaven. Little white round lumps of heaven. Served amazing with tomatoes for a nice light and refreshing snack or appetizer. You can buy it all around Italy (there are literally dozens of brands that sell it) and you can even buy it at Costco if you’re in the states! It will have been frozen for transport, but it’s still amazing. Okay, enough of that cheese tangent…
Pastime is home to the Greek temples of Athena, Hera and Poseidon, but you won’t only find Greek history here. Paestum was also a very important location during Roman times and even the landing site of the U.S. Infantry men during the invasion of Italy in World War Two! Who would have thought you’d come all the way to a Greek temple in southern Italy to learn American history!? Enough jibber jabber… onto the photos.
^ We take super awesome tourist photos… ^

Last thing: The trip here was totally worth the little detour. It was a nice break from sitting in the car and got us out and moving to enjoy our last bit of time on mainland Italy. Tickets into the archeological site was only 7 Euro per person and you’re welcome to spend as much time as you’d like exploring. We spent about an hour there. Just long enough to stretch our legs, take it all in and get back onto the road so we were home before dark!
There was a drawing class happening while we were there. It was kind of awesome to see.
