Fuji X100S First impression

After months and months of reading reviews about the Fuji X100s, I finally ordered one. A couple of photographers I look up to posted the best reviews of the camera I’ve seen. You can read David Hobby’s review here and Zack Arias’ here. Their endorsement of the camera solidified that I wanted it.

Reasons I wanted this camera:
-It’s small, about the size of an iPhone only thicker.
-We wanted a good travel camera so we can leave the “big” gear safely at home.
-The lens doesn’t zoom. Most people want a camera with a 100x zoom so you can shoot a 20-person group shot in a small room but also examine the surface of the moon. But for me, having a lens that doesn’t zoom or move forces me to get closer to people, to zoom with my feet and to see the shots before I take them. Forcing me to learn what other photographers call vision.
-As Lyndsay and I really like to use flash outdoors (more on that in a later post), this camera gives us more flexibility with our shutter speed and flash together.

The camera arrived at the perfect time this morning. Tonight, Lyndsay and I leave for my next duty station in Sicily. That’s what we are saying the ‘s’ in X100s stands for. We are going to use the camera in our portrait work as well as documenting our next three years overseas. I’ll use it to take photos behind the scenes during our sessions. I’ve used my iPhone to get pictures up until now but this camera is just as portable and higher quality than the phone. Attached are photos taken with the iPhone of us receiving the X100s, next week I’ll try to post some images from the camera about our flight and first impressions of Sicily.

For now, we have a flight to catch. See you in Sicily!
